Midnight is a narrative-driven first-person perspective project I created over a six-month period using Unreal Engine 4. Even though UE5 became available during development, and I was curious about its new features, the project’s small scale, simple code and focus on narrative-driven exploration and diegetic wayfinding guides did not warrant the upgrade.
The game's setting and visuals are inspired by David Lynch's series Twin Peaks (1990) where players are tasked with solving the mystery of an alleged suicide attempt and saving the affected individual. The narrative is structured around the concept of the unreliable narrator and the ending invites replayability by introducing multiple levels of ambiguity about what the players just experienced.
